Online Condolences for A. C. Michael ( January 11, 1928 ~ May 08, 2018)

I knew Chuck and Thelma through our times in The Forest Service. I was a seasonal employee when Chuck was a Resource Assistant on the Bozeman District of the Gallatin NF. Thelma worked uptown in the Supervisors Office. I was a young fellow at the time but even then I could see that Chuck dealt with tough issues and at time difficult people with a straightforward no-nonsense approach. I admired that. Chuck and I would spend time together in his reloading room. Sitting on a mountainside in the spring looking for bears. And a few visits back to see them through the course of my own FS career. I valued each occasion and my times with Chuck as well as visits with both he and Thelma. Chuck was dealt some low cards at times through his life. He stood up to each challenge with great strength and character. He is now with his beloved Thelma. God Bless them both. — Tom Osen (Dillon, MT)

Angela & Lila, Growing up , My brothers & I had strong examples of what it meant to be a man , Husband , & loving Father from our Dad & from our Uncles — Chuck was a great example to us & someone we all looked up to & wanted to be like & be around — his combination of toughness in life & tenderness with Thelma & you girls was a big lesson for us . Plus Chuck was a lot of Fun & had a great sense of humor . Though our eyes are misty feeling your pain of loss, we’re also smiling thinking of his reunion with Thelma in Heaven . All Our Love & Blessings Brian & Tina & Family — Brian Little (Pearland, TX)

When Charles (Chuck) Michael married my sister, Thelma, he had no idea she already had three daughters. For the most part, Chuck was an "only child" who was raised by his Granma Bessie. She doted on him. His wish was her command. So when Thelma (one of ten children) invited her younger sisters to come visit, it was a complete shock to Chuck and an invasion of his space. He loved to tease and torment us. As part of his reaction to us, we were all given nicknames based on how he saw us. Twila would stamp her foot when she was upset or angry so she was "Thumper". Veva had red, frizzy hair, was very extroverted and was anointed "Little Fanny Gooney". Illa, the sweet, soft little girl, was known as "Dough Belly". We finally all grew up and were absolutely thrilled when Chuck was blessed with two daughters. It could not have happened to a better person. Chuck will long be remembered for his sense of humor (even when some of us didn't think it was funny), his love of dogs, guns, hunting, campling and being a Grunt. Some of us girls considered him to be a Man's Man. In this day and age, he would not have been considered politically coreect. But he was always honest and always Chuck. — Veva Becker (Niwot, CO)

To the Michael family: You two young women are the most beautiful and loving ever. My prayers and sympathies are with you and your loved ones. What a great tribute you've planned for your father. He suffered greatly in his lifetime but you made it special every day. Your mother would be so proud and so am I. Sorry I can't be there but I'll be watching on you tube with great pride and affection. RIP Charles. My love to all, Aunt Illa Illa Harvey (NORWALK, IA)
