Helen Olson

June 9, 1935 ~ April 07, 2018

Helen Lemon Olson passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Bozeman at the age of 82, after a sudden illness.

Helen was born June 9, 1935 in Billings, Montana to Pauline (Nelson) and Frank Fitzpatrick and later adopted by stepfather, George Waring.  She started school in Cody, Wyoming then moved to McCallister, Montana with her family where she attended school in Ennis.

She married George Lemon in 1952 and they moved to Belgrade a couple of years later.  Together they raised four children.  Aside from being a homemaker, she worked at JC Penney and Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.  She was an avid seamstress, sewing her children’s school clothes and later making many quilts.  She was a selfless caregiver and was affectionately known as the “potato lady” at the Farmer’s Market due to the large truck farm she and George operated in the 1980’s.  Twelve years after George’s death in 1991, Helen found happiness again with Ben Olson, whom she married in 2003.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, George and Pauline Waring; her sister, Mary Lou Clark; and both of her husbands, George Lemon and Ben Olson.  Helen is survived by her four children, Sharon Sager, Steve Lemon, Karen Kirwan (Tom) and Myra Stavick (Mike); 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
