Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service

William Curtis

April 8, 1933 ~ October 03, 2018

On Wednesday afternoon, October 3, 2018, in the presence of his wife and many friends, William O. Curtis left his earthly body to go to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!  After nine years of courageously fighting Multiple Myeloma, Bill is now fully alive and cancer free. (For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16)

Bill was born April 8, 1933, to Marie (Sheldon) and Donald Curtis in beautiful Cassville, WI, and soon enjoyed fishing on the Mississippi River.  Bill graduated from the University of WI-Madison and used his Electrical Engineering degree at his 31-year career at Northern States Power/Minneapolis (now Xcel Energy).   He said his life had proceeded pretty much the way he thought it would – Navy service in the Korean War, college, a career, marriage and family.  In the late 80’s, his dear friend, Glen, shared the “Romans Road” verses with him, and he began to understand the difference between religion and a personal relationship with Jesus and accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.  Soon after, he and his new wife, Janet, moved to her home state of MT and settled in Bozeman where he was an avid hunter and loved his fishing trips.  Bill immediately became involved in the Noon Rotary Club, Lions Club, Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), Love INC board, MT Bible College Board, and Bible Study Fellowship.

In the late 1990’s, Bill helped lead the new construction for his church, Grace Bible Church. In 2000, Bible Study Fellowship started a Men’s BSF class where he served as class administrator until recently – ‘just an administrator in the background’, he said.

In 2009, Bill was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma which introduced him to the staff and patients at the Bozeman Cancer Center.  His diagnosis refocused his life’s efforts yet again, “making Curtis a more joyful, prayerful, and thankful man,” said of his friend, Mike McLeod.  If asked how he was, his answer was, “better than I deserve.”

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lila, this past February.  Bill’s absence will be felt by the many who served alongside him, who he called brothers and sisters in the Lord as well as his family:  his wife, Janet, of almost 27 years (10-26-91); brother, Donald (Barb) Curtis of Fairchild, WI; sister, Michelle Galloway of Cassville, WI; oldest son, Jeff (Ann) Curtis of Hudson, WI and his children: Nicole/Tripp Underwood of Boston and two daughters, Cece and Vivi; Megan Curtis and Shane Curtis of Minneapolis; youngest son, Steve (Trish) Curtis of Chisago City, MN and their children: Zach Curtis (Chisago City, MN ), Taylor Curtis (Detroit, MI) and fiancé Bryce; and Brianna Curtis (Chisago City, MN ); plus many nieces and nephews.

We are grateful to Dr. Hiebert and Dr. Hensold and their associates; Bridger Rehab staff, Frontier Home Health, and the Hospice staff for their wonderful care.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Church on Friday, October 26 at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) at www.bsfinternational.org or www.gracebiblechurch/bozeman.com
