Gilbert Fisher

December 18, 1921 ~ December 21, 2016

Graveside Service: July 10, 2017 11:00 AM
Location: Gallatin Valley Sunset Memorial Gardens on Frontage Rd.

Gilbert W. Fisher, 95, of Bozeman passed away on Dec. 21, 2016, at Brookdale Spring Meadows Assisted Living. He was born Dec. 18, 1921, to James and Jean (Tibbs) Fisher and lived on the Fisher family homestead at Cold Springs, Montana, near Norris.

The Fisher family moved to Whitehall in 1935, and a few years later to Belgrade. Gil married Margie Maichel in 1942, and served in the army as a radio operator in Germany during World War II. They had three sons together, Dennis, Gary, and Terry. After Margie’s passing, Gil married Lydia Schneider in 1968. They made their home in Helena. Gil retired from US West in 1982 after 30 years with the company. Gil and Lydia moved to Bozeman in 1990, where they lived their remaining years.

Gil had many talents and interests. He played several musical instruments including the saxophone and keyboard. In his early adult years, Gil played in a band at local night clubs. He was also a creative and skilled carpenter. Gil could build most anything, including trucks for his grandchildren, and his home-repair skills were beyond compare.

Gil was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, his first and second wife, his three sons and stepson, Lester Muhlbeier, a grandson, and two great-grandchildren.

He is survived by 6 grandchildren, Mike Fisher of Auburn, Washington, Jackie Wiest of Missoula, Matt Fisher of Everett, Washington, Jamie Stroh of Missoula, Jennifer Fisher of Missoula, and Annie Murphy of New York, many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 10 at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

"I just wanted to thank you for all your help with my dad's funeral.  Planning a funeral can be very stressful, but you took such care that we were never confused or stressed about anything.  It was so easy to call and talk with you and ask questions.  You presented all the options to us clearly to let us decide about things, and then you made them happen at the service so we didn't have to do anything.  You are so very good at your job."
