Tracy Linn

May 20, 1938 ~ July 06, 2017

Service: July 11, 2017 11:00 A.M.
   Location: Shining Mountains Lutheran Church

Tracy Claud Linn, 79, died Thursday, July 6, 2017, surrounded by his family at his home in Bozeman, Montana, following a two-year struggle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn (Quast) Linn; his son, Timothy and wife, Darla, of Bend, Oregon; his daughter, Susan (Linn) Plocher and husband, Michael, of New Ulm, Minnesota; his sister, Anita Johnson of Norman, Oklahoma; brother, Kenneth and wife, April, of Norman, Oklahoma; and five grandchildren, Emilee, Timothy, Claire, Josiah and Lewis.

Tracy was born at home in Cleveland County, Oklahoma, the son of William Arless Linn and Ruth Mae (Harmon) Linn. In his early years, he split his time between school and the family farm. After graduating from Norman High School, he attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a baccalaureate degree in chemistry. While earning his doctorate in biochemistry at the University of Minnesota, Tracy met his wife, Marilyn. They were married in 1962.

After completing his post-doctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin, Tracy moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked for two decades doing research before moving on to a career as a financial consultant. In 2004, he retired to Bozeman.

In 1962, Tracy was baptized and confirmed at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He remained active in the church for the rest of his life. He was a founding member of Holy Word Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas; he served in every office but treasurer at Calvary Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas, including a decade as president; he was a delegate to several Synodical conventions; and served on the WELS District Mission Board, the WELS Home Mission Board, the Board of Control for Northwestern Prep School and the Synodical Board for Ministerial Education.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 11 at 11:00 A.M. at Shining Mountains Lutheran Church, 1710 Vaquero Parkway, Bozeman, MT 59718. The service will be live streamed and archived at Shining Mountains Lutheran Church’s YouTube channel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shining Mountains Lutheran Church in care of Tracy Linn Memorial.

"Chris, how do I ever find the words to properly or adequately thank you for your support and kindness during a very trying time.  You are a very special young man and have a wonderful way of making a very difficult time much more easy.  It was very comforting to deal with you.  You are a natural at your position.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
