David Ressler

August 24, 1956 ~ November 07, 2017

Service: November 17, 2017 4:00 PM
   Location: Grace Bible Church

David M. Ressler, 61, passed away on November 7, 2017.  Born August 24, 1956 to Christ and Agnes Ressler (Hellman) in Mandan, ND, he lived in Mandan until 1999. Dave attended Mandan schools and graduated from Mandan High School in May of 1976. He married Gerri Tveito in March of 1976. In those early years, he worked at Barney’s Standard Service, Bill’s Super Value and drove a bus for the Mandan school system. He started working for Chase Chevrolet in Mandan in 1980 as a salesman and finance manager. In 1987, he had the opportunity to purchase the dealership from Ivan Gandrud and added the Subaru franchise in 2002. He has been recognized in the car industry with numerous awards throughout his career for his sales, leadership and managerial accomplishments and was a frequent Chevrolet Legion of Leaders recipient.

In the 1990’s he fell in love with the Bozeman area and decided to ask Pat Connell of Connell Chevrolet to sell his dealership. By February of 1999, he was the owner of what is now Ressler Motors. In January of 2015 he purchased Montana Import Group which is now Gallatin Motors. Dave loved the car business and everything about it. He was a Corvette enthusiast and had an extensive collection of invaluable and one-of-a-kind vehicles which includes the world’s oldest Corvette and the first 2009 ZR1.

He was passionate and generous in his support for community outreach projects and foundations in Bozeman and Mandan. He has been recognized by both communities for his sponsorships and participation in charitable events, youth and sports programs, Wounded Warriors Foundation, MSU events and activities as well as fund raising for numerous organizations and schools. Most noteworthy is the Ressler Motors Ice Rink. If we were to list all his contributions, these pages would be too few. Over the years, several hundred organizations throughout the Gallatin Valley and Mandan have been supported regularly by his companies and personal contributions.

Dave had great love for his children and grandchildren. The love expressed to him when being called ‘Papos’ by his grandchildren meant the world to him and lit up his life. The grandchildren’s hearts will forever be fulfilled with the unconditional love given to them by their ‘Papos’.

He is survived by his wife, Gerri, daughters; Kandace Maxwell and fiancé PJ Johnson, Natalie Ressler and friend, Andrew Morrison, and grandchildren; Ayden and Hannah Maxwell and Cayel and Owen Murphy all of Bozeman, brothers; Butch (Al) (wife, Gail) Fairfax Station, VA, Louie (Ron) and Dan, Mandan, ND, sisters; Marsha Hertz (Dewey), Bozeman and Lynn Ressler, Ringgold, GA, mother-in-law, Joyce Tveito, sister-in-law, Karen Rychlik (Jerry), brothers-in-law; Steven Tveito (Marlene), Leigh Tveito (Sheila) and Curt Tveito all of Mandan, ND, numerous nieces, nephews and a true friend, Pamela Pierce.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Christ and Agnes Ressler (Hellman) and father-in-law, Gerhard Tveito.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, November 17th at 4 p.m. at Grace Bible Church.  A reception will follow at the Strand Union Building at MSU.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Monforton School Foundation in memory of Dave Ressler, 6001 Monforton School Road, Bozeman, MT 59718.

"I just wanted to thank you for all your help with my dad's funeral.  Planning a funeral can be very stressful, but you took such care that we were never confused or stressed about anything.  It was so easy to call and talk with you and ask questions.  You presented all the options to us clearly to let us decide about things, and then you made them happen at the service so we didn't have to do anything.  You are so very good at your job."
