On February 4, 2018, George B. Kamps, 97, went to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior.  He entered heaven as his family sang “Amazing Grace”.

He is survived by one brother, Bert (Harriet) Kamps; son, Gary (Jean) Kamps; daughter, Loretta (Keith) Fennema; and six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Grace, two brothers, and six sisters.

George was born October 10, 1920 to Bogert and Trientje Kamps.  He received his education in various country schools in the Gallatin Valley.  He proudly served in the Army in the European Theater in WWII.  He was wounded in France and was awarded a Purple Heart.

After the war, he started his life’s work as a farmer.  He loved to fish, go camping, play golf, and, of course, pitch horseshoes. 

He attended First Manhattan Christian Reformed Church his entire life.  He served many terms as Elder and Deacon.

He was a resident at Churchill Retirement Home since 2000.

Visitation is scheduled at First Manhattan Christian Reformed Church at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 8, with Funeral Services to begin at 11:00 am.  Military honors will be held at the church after the service, with interment to follow at Churchill Cemetery.  Everyone is invited to a reception in the church Fellowship Hall after the service.

Memorials in George’s name may be made to Compassus Hospice, 301 Edelweiss Dr., Ste. 6, Bozeman, MT  59718; or Churchill Retirement Home, 6151 Shady Rest St., Manhattan, MT  59741.
