Mildred McAfee

May 17, 1926 ~ March 06, 2018

Millie McAfee, 91, a Bozeman native, passed away March 6, 2018, at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

Millie was born on May 17, 1926, to Edward and Martha Vogel, in Bozeman, where she grew up and attended the Story Mill School and Gallatin County High School.  Millie graduated from Montana State College with a degree in nursing.  She was employed by Bozeman Deaconess Hospital for 29 years of which 25 were Director of Nursing Services.  Nursing was gratifying, stimulating and rewarding to her.  She retired in 1980.

Millie married Herbert Flanigan and together they raised two sons, Jim and Bill.  In 1973 she married Kenneth McAfee and they enjoyed being together for over 40 years.  Traveling, gardening, cooking, playing bridge and spending time with the grandchildren brought her much joy. She was a member of Alpha Tau Delta, Montana Nursing Association, Montana League for Nursing, and Bozeman Deaconess Hospital Alumni Association.  She and Ken were avid Montana State Bobcat fans. She was proud to be a Bozeman native from a family of early Bozeman settlers.

Survivors include her two sons, Jim (Vickie) Flanigan of Vancouver, Washington and Bill (Debi) Flanigan of Bozeman; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeff (Brit), Kristen (JD), and Kelli (Kash); great-grandchildren, Caden, Roman, Mycah and Crew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Martha Vogel, Sisters, Vera (Frank) DeHaan and Margaret(Don) Jones and her beloved husband, Kenneth McAfee.

Millie touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity.  We will always carry her memory in our hearts.  A family memorial will be held this summer.
