Doris Jeanne Parker

June 21, 1926 ~ July 17, 2018

Doris Jeanne Stiles Parker, age 92, passed away on July 17, 2018, in Bozeman, Montana. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends! Jeanne was the first of five children born to Bernard and Margaret Schroeder Stiles. She joined her parents on June 21, 1926, at Paola, Kansas, and grew up surrounded not only by her siblings, but by numerous relative in the Spring Hill, Paola, and Baldwin City areas. Her parents had a dairy business, and she loved to tell the story of delivering milk with her dad. She attended Paola and Baldwin City High Schools, where she played clarinet in the band, graduating in 1944. She worked at various jobs in Kansas and Jackson, Mississippi, until she met her husband, William Roscoe Parker, while carpooling to work at TWA in Kansas City. They married in 1947 and moved to Lewistown, Montana, later that year for Bill to help build the local radio station, KXLO.

They raised their children in Lewistown and were active members of the community for many years. Jeanne worked for Fergus County Superintendent of Schools, was the secretary for the Fergus County Extension office and spent 18 years working for the Central Montana Health District from which she retired. She and Bill also were youth group home parents after their children left home. She was involved in many volunteer activities including the Mental Health Board, Family Planning Board, the Governor's Council for Children and Youth and the Hospice Advisory Board. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and served on various boards there. She was a member of DAR. In 1974 she was named the Soroptimist Woman of the Year.

Jeanne loved to explore Central Montana and became quite the expert on its history and geology. She was an avid gardener and expert bread baker. She loved to dance and laugh and was a devoted member of her women's club. She became quite an ambassador for physical fitness at midlife, outwalking all of us. Jeanne was a life-long learner and enjoyed traveling the world. She took trips throughout the United States, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Canada, Mexico, and Central America and shared wonderful stories from her experiences. She was always ready for the next adventure.

In 1999 Jeanne moved to Bozeman where her daughter, Reva, lives. She immediately became involved as a volunteer at the Museum of the Rockies, the hospital and Bozeman Senior Center. She worked as a product sampler at Safeway. She joined Reva's book group, hiked with BWAGs and enjoyed her new activities and new friends immensely. In 2005 she moved into Reva's home where she continued to reside until her death. Jeanne faced the ups and downs in her life with strength, grace, kindness, humility, a sense of humor and a twinkle in her blue eyes.

Jeanne is survived by her children, Walter "Bill" (Deb) Parker, Vickie (Jim) Parker-Clark, Reva Parker, Reva's partner and Jeanne's good friend, Dana Huschle; granddaughter, Julianne (Robert) Eugley; great-granddaughter, Shallae Eugley; and great-great-granddaughter, Stella Bassi; great-grandsons, Robert and Jaden Parker; sister, Marjorie Hitchcock; sisters-in-law, Diane Stiles and Margaret Mosser; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Eleanor, Barbara and Phil; and her grandson, Chad Parker.

Cremation has taken place. No service is planned at this time.

Memorial gifts can be made in Jeanne's name to Shodair Children's Hospital in Helena, MT (www.shodair.org) or to the United Methodist Church UMCOR.

"Thank you for all your help and support during the death of my mother.  I was very impressed with your staff throughout this difficult process.  With your help we were able to say good-bye to our mother in a very meaningful way.  Our loss is still so new, but our thanks to you for the care you showed."
