Patricia Ruth Grady, aka Patty Ruth, affectionately known as "Queen of the Kin Kins", left this world Thursday, July 19, 2018. Born February 20, 1930, to Marie and William Henderson in Ridgefarm, Illinois, she was the middle child of five sisters.

Patricia was raised on the family farm with Quaker roots.  She was no stranger to hard work, an ethic she carried throughout her life.  Patricia converted to Catholicism when she married William Grady on June 5, 1954, moving to Kankakee, Illinois, to start their family.  She was blessed with an immense capacity to care for others, a quality that shone through in her work as a mother of her eleven children, as a wife, and in her career as a pediatric nurse.

Patricia never had a mean word to say about anybody, but she was a true beacon of humorous sass. For example, one of her favorite phrases was, “Shake it don’t break it!” Exclamations like this inspired the adoption of a new, loving nickname, “Sassy Patty,” in the final years of her life. Patricia was as sweet as her sweet tooth. Her happiness grew from the happiness of everyone around her.  She lit up every room with her endearing smile and generosity and approached every endeavor and relationship from her heart.  All those who knew her felt comfortable and drawn to her as she was invested in knowing people deeply and compassionately and passing on her wisdom and insight.

This thoughtfulness led to her involvement in a multitude of community and church projects. Not only was she good at getting things done, Patty Ruth was always up for a good time. She loved music of all kinds, travel, any chocolate she could get, and was always dressed to the nines. Everyone admired her humor, sense of adventure, and zest for life. Her final years were spent lovingly cared for by the staff of Spring Creek Memory Care in Bozeman, Montana, where she melted the hearts of all those in the community and brightened the day with her charming spirit. She has now rejoined the love of her life, Bill Grady.

Patricia was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce; and will be deeply missed by her sisters, Ann, Marilyn and Helen; her children, Michael, Teresa, Mary, Tim, Cate, Dan, Nancy, Caroline, Maureen, Patrick and Eileen; her inlaws and outlaws; her 34 grandchildren; and her one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 24, from 5 to7 p.m. at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 220 West Main St., Bozeman, MT. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 31, at 11 a.m. at Ketoctin Cemetery in Round Hill, VA.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Patricia’s name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 3010 – 11th Avenue N., Billings, MT 59101 or to a charity of your choice.
