Rita Kieffer

November 14, 1922 ~ October 27, 2018

On Saturday, October 27, 2018, Rita Violet (Buksyk) Kieffer passed away peacefully just 17 days before her 96th birthday.

Rita was born on November 14, 1922, in Menahsa, Wisconsin.  She grew up in Wisconsin with her sisters and four brothers and enjoyed swimming, ice skating, and going to dances.  Rita married her husband, Charles, during WWII and gave birth to their six children in Wisconsin.  The family moved to California in 1956 where she lived until moving to Montana in her senior years.

Rita loved to read, bake bread, garden, and preserve fruits and garden vegetables.  Rita took pride in being a mother and a homemaker.  However, over the course of her life, she also worked in a factory, as a house cleaner, and a childcare provider.

She and Charles raised their son, Tim, who was born with Down Syndrome.  Rita cared for her son with this disability far into his adulthood.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her sisters, Olive and Della; three of four brothers, Elmer, Norman, and David; and one of her sons, Tim.  She is survived by one brother, William; one son, Don; four daughters, Kathleen, Lavon, Patricia, and Lyndell; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.

Rita was cremated, and her ashes will be placed at a future date with ashes of her husband, Charles, and son, Tim, in Bloomfield, California.

Her family would like to thank the people at Spring Meadows and Compassus Hospice for all her wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Rita’s name to Special Olympics, P.O. Box 3507, Great Falls, MT 59403, or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.

Family Feedback

"Thank you again for the very special service for our Dad.  We will forever appreciate your kindness, hard-work, and your ability to make his celebration of life "just right."  Everything captured our Dad's good life right down to the 'can of Coke' and the special music...wonderful memories."
