Local Funeral Professionals Travel to Harvard to Participate In National Mentoring Program

Bozeman, MONT. (September 23, 2011)  Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service & Crematory today announced T.J. Goodwin, funeral director, and Stephanie Peterson, funeral director apprentice, were two of only 50 funeral directors across the nation selected to participate in the National Funeral Directors Association’s (NFDA) inaugural Meet the Mentors program.

Meet the Mentors, which took place on September 13 at the Harvard Faculty Club on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., brought young funeral professionals together to learn from four of the country’s leading funeral directors and network with like-minded peers.

“The Meet The Mentors program in Boston helped solidify the importance of my role as a young funeral director to continually strive to focus on helping provide more innovative and memorable service offerings to the families in our care,” said T.J. Goodwin, funeral director at Dokken-Nelson.  “Dokken-Nelson does a great job of offering personalized services, but there are a lot of funeral homes around the country doing things the same way they have for years and years.”

T.J. Goodwin has been with Dokken-Nelson since the summer of 2007, completing his apprenticeship and becoming a licensed funeral director in the fall of 2008.  Stephanie Peterson joined Dokken-Nelson in August of 2011, with an anticipated apprenticeship completion date in January of 2012.

“The relationships I built in Boston with the four well-experienced mentors, as well as my peers from all over the country, are invaluable,” said Stephanie Peterson, funeral director apprentice at Dokken-Nelson.  “I hope to keep in touch with many of them so I can continue to learn from them and stay aware of what other organizations are doing.”

“We are thrilled to have on our team two of only 50 young funeral professionals selected from across the entire United States to participate in this caliber of training,” said Chris Remely, owner and funeral director at Dokken-Nelson.  “Both T.J. and Stephanie are top-notch individuals who are compassionate and committed to the families in our care.”

More information about the NFDA Meet the Mentors program can be found on the NFDA website, www.nfda.org/mentors.
