Louise Hires

June 10, 1937 ~ July 24, 2018

Service: August 04, 2018 2:00 PM
Location: Faith Baptist Church, Tampa, Florida

Louise “Jeanelle” Hires, age 81, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2018.  She was born June 10, 1937, at Tampa General Hospital to Carnie and Alma (Crosson) Hires.  She graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1955 and played an active role in the class alumni as treasurer until the onset of dementia as a result of a fall in 2016.  Jeanelle labeled herself as a “stay put gal” who for the first 80 years, lived in only two houses, both in Seminole Heights.  Since the age of two, she had been a member of only one church, where at one time or another, she had done everything but preach the Sunday morning message.  She had only one job her entire life at Jim Walter Industries.  She began her 45-year career as a mail clerk and by retirement, had worked herself up to supervising a staff of five covering 10,000 participants in pension and profit sharing.  While working, Jeanelle attended night classes earning herself a two-year degree in secretarial science at the University of Tampa, a BS Cum Laude in Business Administration with a major in accounting, and a BA Cum Laude in Arts & Sciences with a major in Women’s Studies at University of South Florida.

Jeanelle lived a life in service of others and worked hard to show young women that they could accomplish anything through faith, hard work and education.  Jeanelle began volunteering with St. Joseph’s Women’s Auxiliary in 1982 and since had given over 22,000 hours of service, holding positions which included Auxiliary President, NICU Cuddler Chair, Fundraising Chair and Auxiliary Recruiter (their best).  Jeanelle also served as Queen Mum of the Red Rovers Red Hat Society and was a long-time member of the Tampa Rose Society and Tampa Bay Orchid Society.  Jeanelle also served on the Board for a Brighter Community, a need-based pre-school and family support group.

While Jeanelle enjoyed planting deep roots in the Seminole Heights Community, she also had a passion for travel and had been all over the world.  She especially loved her trips to the Holy Land where she was able to see the sights mentioned in her favorite book, the Bible.

Left to honor Jeanelle is her sister, Sandy (Hires) Steinberg (husband:  Kenneth); niece, Ashley (Steinberg) Cota (husband:  Joshua); nephew, Eric Steinberg (wife: Jillian); and three great-nephews, Gage Steinberg, Joshua and Elijah Cota.  Jeanelle was preceded in death by her parents and great-nephew, Jax Steinberg.  Jeanelle will be remembered as a bright and shining light in her family, church, organizations, and community where she served.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Faith Baptist Church, 1109 E. Osborne Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33603.  In celebration of Jeanelle, the family asks that you wear purple (if you have it) her favorite color!

"I just wanted to thank you for all your help with my dad's funeral.  Planning a funeral can be very stressful, but you took such care that we were never confused or stressed about anything.  It was so easy to call and talk with you and ask questions.  You presented all the options to us clearly to let us decide about things, and then you made them happen at the service so we didn't have to do anything.  You are so very good at your job."
