Bert L. Kamps, 94, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018, at Parkhaven in Manhattan, MT.  He was born on December 8, 1923, to Borgert and Trientje Kamps in Manhattan, the youngest of ten children.  He farmed and lived in the Gallatin Valley his whole life.  He drove school bus for Manhattan Christian School for 17 years.

Bert married Harriet Droge on October 18, 1946.  He passed away one week short of their 72nd anniversary.  They had four children, Duane (Helen) Kamps, Arlene (Loren) Oostema, Delbert (Audrey Ligtenberg Ulmen), Nancy (Arnold) Ligtenberg. They have 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his son, Delbert; three grandchildren, Tyler and Andrew Ligtenberg and Bertina Kamps; and all his siblings.

Bert loved music. He spent time playing his guitar, harmonica and singing.  Bert and his daughter, Arlene, sang many duets together.  He was a member of the Gallatin Valley Men’s Choir, the Chord Rustlers and Gideons International.  He was an avid fisherman and loved hunting.

The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice, Leslie, volunteers, William, Amanda, and many others who cared for Bert and to our loving friends and caretakers at Parkhaven: Crystal, Misti, Eva, Barbara, Christine, Nick.  We are eternally grateful for the entire staff.

Visitation for Bert will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church.  Interment will take place at 10 a.m. at Churchill Cemetery followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m. at Bethel Church.

Memorials may be made in Bert’s name or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Family Feedback

"Thank you seems too inadequate to express the true feelings in my heart for the way you handled the military service.  I know he would have approved of your efficient and caring manner and so do I.  Thanks again, too, for your kindness.  I shall always recommend your services to all I come in contact with."
