Susan T. Carter

August 31, 1922 ~ March 21, 2019

Service: April 12, 2019 10:00 AM
   Location: Holy Rosary Catholic Church

Lovingly known as "Grandma Sue", Susan Carter, 96, passed away peacefully in Bozeman, Montana on March 21, 2019.

Sue was born in Sayre, Pennsylvania to Michael and Anastasia (Fedchak) Tzupp.  She was the fifth born of six children and enjoyed her childhood growing up in a Ukrainian, Italian, and Jewish neighborhood.  She was a graduate of Sayre High School and later attended a business school in Binghamton, New York.

In the 1940's, Sue followed her sister, Irene, and her family west settling in Crescent City in northern California.  While working as a secretary at Parkside Dairy, she met her future husband, James Carter.  After they were married, Sue and Jim moved to Smith River, California where their only child, Denise, was born in 1958.

Sue worked as an administrative secretary and office manager for most of her working career.  After her husband, Jim, passed away in 1999, Sue moved to Belgrade, Montana to be with Denise and her family.  Once settled in Belgrade, Sue enjoyed volunteering for Belgrade's Meals on Wheels and was an active member of St. John Vianney's parish.

"Grandma" Sue loved being surrounded by her family and friends.  She doted on her two grandchildren, Amanda and Paul, and their friends quickly became "adopted" grandchildren.  She enjoyed her evening glass of wine, sitting on her porch, and watching Denise's chickens on the back lawn.

Sue was preceded in death by: her husband, James Carter; her mother and father; her brothers, Daniel and George Tzupp; her sisters, Helena (Tzupp) Strayves, Mamie Tzupp, Irene (Tzupp) Gaskin, and her niece, Susan (Gaskin) Frakes.

Surviving relatives include daughter, Denise (Carter) Riebe and son-in-law, Thomas Riebe; grandchildren, Amanda Riebe, Paul Riebe and his wife, Joey; nephews, Donald Strayves, Richard Strayves, Charles Carter Anhorn; nieces, Irene (Strayves) Kolberg, Nancy (Strayves) Wymer, Marsha (Gaskin) Carlson, Lynn Carter and Kimberly (Carter) Mueller.

A Mass will be celebrated Friday, April 12th at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 220 West Main Street, Bozeman, Montana.
